Yesturday at Wallis Farm, Jazz open first within minutes of the first draw in the pines right below 2 deer carcasses off Crane Creek Road. The other 15 hounds honored her and we were off to a very enjoyable run on what turned out to be a bobcat. We must have interrupted his meal. All the hounds, Jazz, Josephine, Amber, Adeline, Allison, Solitaire, Roo Roo, Britches, Jackie, Jeremiah, Kaptain, Tenson, Solomon, Soldier, Kingpin and Angus sounded wonderful!!!!!!! They ran toward Rt.601, circled back, then crossed red gate road and headed for the big gasline. I was waiting on the edge of the woods at the wide field on the gasline looking both ways. Out came a large fox, I thought at first, and then realized he had no tail and slightly longer legs. That bobcat ran along the middle of 4-post road and down to Crane Creek. All hounds were just seconds behind him. It was so exciting! They circled around below us in those thick pine woods of Robinson’s. We all expected the game to come back across. Waiting patiently were Cheryl, Kate, Judy and Susan. Never happened. Hounds lost somewhere in there? With strong pressure, bobcats like to go up trees.
We collected all hounds, crossed back over the gasline and hunted above the cemetary. This is where the day fell apart. Hounds spoke off and on and it didn’t sound as good. Some hounds came out to me like Dawson use to. Oh! Deer? Some hounds took off and we never knew where until much later. Other hounds, stayed in the pines speaking off and on. A gray fox? How I wish they wouldn’t split up. We spent the rest of the afternoon collecting hounds with Roo Roo being the last. She had crossed 2 roads and was heading to the Appomattox River when Earl and I tracked her to the Hix‘s cow pasture. Hoorah for shock and tracking collars!
